Getting to Know Tracy

I often say I’m one of the luckiest people I know. I get to work with beautiful objects every day — selecting them, appreciating them, and giving them a temporary home until they find the right one.

My interest in crystals wasn’t something I grew up with. I was raised by my mum, money was tight, and beyond the classic gemstones — diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds — crystals weren’t really on my radar. Even having a jewellery connection through my former marriage didn’t spark it at the time.

After having my two sons, I made a significant career change, moving away from accountancy and into holistic massage therapy in the early 2000s. That period of change led me to discover crystals in a more personal way — not as something I’d been taught, but as something I was naturally drawn to. When my mum and I went into business together in 2009, having space to sell crystals felt like a natural part of what we were creating.

In 2014, when The Float Sanctuary closed, I reached a crossroads. The work was fulfilling, but the business itself wasn’t sustainable long term. I took that as an opportunity to simplify and focus on what I genuinely enjoyed most. That decision led me into business with Louise, and The Crystal Tree opened later that year.

Although earlier ventures didn’t always work out as planned, they led to important connections and experiences that shaped what The Crystal Tree is today — and I wouldn’t change that path.

The Crystal Tree was originally based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex (a shop that closed in 2022), before Louise and I made the decision to relocate. After exploring different areas of the UK, we fell in love with Herefordshire and the Wye Valley. The move felt right, both personally and professionally.

For a time, we planned to take the business fully online, but it quickly became clear that what we value most is connection — with people, not just screens. By early 2023, the idea of opening a new physical shop took shape, and The Crystal Tree in Ross-on-Wye was born.

Today, our focus is simple: thoughtfully chosen crystals, honest descriptions, and a welcoming space where people can browse, ask questions, or simply have a chat. If you’re local, you’re always welcome to pop in — even if it’s just to say hello.
