Description

Uruguayan Amethyst on Stand

This impressive Uruguayan Amethyst on Stand is a beautiful natural mineral specimen, mounted to create a striking display piece.

Uruguayan Amethyst is particularly admired for its intense purple colouring. The crystals in this specimen display the rich, saturated tones characteristic of material from Uruguay, with numerous individual crystal points creating a wonderfully textured surface.

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, coloured by trace amounts of iron combined with natural irradiation during its formation. Uruguay is an important source of particularly deeply coloured Amethyst, making specimens from this locality popular with mineral and crystal collectors.

Mounted on its stand, this substantial piece measures approximately 25.5cm tall × 12cm wide and weighs 2.054kg, making it large enough to become a focal point without requiring the space of a much larger geode.

Caring for your Amethyst

Although quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, individual crystal points can still chip if knocked. Handle the specimen carefully and display it on a stable surface. Prolonged exposure to strong sunlight is also best avoided, as Amethyst can gradually lose colour.

A wonderful statement specimen for anyone who appreciates the deep purple colouring and natural crystal formations for which Uruguayan Amethyst is known.
