Description

Vanadinite Pendant

This unusual Vanadinite Pendant allows the natural crystal formation to remain the star of the piece. Rather than using a polished gemstone, the pendant features a cluster of natural Vanadinite crystals held within a sterling silver claw setting.

The crystals have the rich red to reddish-brown colouring associated with Vanadinite, with individual crystal faces and natural variations visible across the specimen.

Weighing approximately 6.8g and measuring around 25mm, this is a wonderfully different piece of mineral jewellery — particularly for someone who prefers crystals in a more natural form.

You will receive the exact pendant shown.

What is Vanadinite?

Vanadinite is a lead chlorovanadate mineral, with the chemical formula Pb₅(VO₄)₃Cl. It belongs to the apatite group and typically forms striking hexagonal crystals, which can range from bright orange and red through to deep reddish-brown.

It is particularly sought after by mineral collectors because well-formed Vanadinite can produce beautifully defined hexagonal crystals, sometimes gathered together in dense clusters.

This pendant is a lovely example of how a mineral specimen can become jewellery without first being cut and polished into a conventional gemstone.

Care

Vanadinite is much softer and more delicate than many familiar jewellery gemstones, so this pendant should be worn and stored with care.

It also contains lead as part of its natural chemical composition. The lead is bound within the mineral structure, but sensible mineral-handling precautions are appropriate: avoid putting the stone in your mouth, wash your hands after prolonged handling of the exposed mineral surface, and keep it away from young children.

Avoid water, chemical jewellery cleaners and ultrasonic cleaning. Store separately from harder jewellery to help protect the natural crystal surfaces.

For someone who loves minerals as much as jewellery, this is a particularly interesting piece — a natural Vanadinite crystal formation that can actually be worn.
